This Week's New Beer Labels & A Favorite Building

Here’s something most people don’t know about me: One of my favorite buildings in Chicago is the Monadnock Building.1 It’s the tallest load-bearing brick construction on Earth (so sayeth Wikipedia, anyways), and it’s just such an unapologetic, imposing beast of a structure.

I’ve also always loved this part of the South Loop, a chronically underappreciated area that’s home to beloved nearby bars and restaurants like the Sky Ride Tap and Chicken Planet.2 A big, brutish building like the Monadnock fits right in. Anyways, someone at Hop Butcher might feel similar to me about it, because…

The New Illinois Beer Label of the Week:

…is an American Porter called Monadnock, which just emerged in the last few days and they shared themselves in their own newsletter email. Either way, love it. Any non-IPA beverage from Hop Butcher usually catches my eye but this one especially. I have other buildings to recommend if you need suggestions, Hop Butcher. Hit me up.

That label and the corresponding architectural opinions are all you get today if you’re a free subscriber, but Premium Subscribers also receive:

  • A new expression of the Dark Lord’s spirit,

  • A new Dope Beer from Black Calder,

  • An All-Day adjustment,

  • A beer that’s perfect for the Pool,

  • And a beer that lets me quote Eazy-E.
