Welcome once again to Label Wednesday! Notice I didn’t say “beer label Wednesday.” We’ll get to that in a sec.
As always, free subscribers will get to see one of the new Illinois labels that came through the TTB this week. Paid subscribers will get to also learn about:
Two new barrel-aged beer labels, including the next new KBS variant — unannounced as of this moment
A beer made with red onion and spinach
A new American lager that teaches us about the regional distinctions of childhood recess games
A brand-new beer coming from Leinenkugel’s that sounds pretty good
What we consider “new” even if you might have seen that label in the past
Not a paid subscriber? You can remedy that situation right here for the equivalent of buying us a single beer each month:
Thank you, as always, for being here! Here’s a label that’s not a beer, but rather:
The New Illinois Beer-Adjacent Label Of The Week:
Is it a beer? No. Is it from a beverage company that is mostly a brewery? I’d say so. Hopefully you’ll allow me a small stretch into small-batch RTDs like this one from Maplewood Brewing Company.
Offerings like this interest me because this is the space where things can get weird and interesting and usually, not so overwhelmingly sweet. Looks like I’ll have to schedule a trip to the Salt Shed to try this one, though.
Also, GDB Steve kindly spent part of his weekend sending me updates about the Riot! Pop branded seltzers1 he was sampling at Riot Fest, so maybe a beverage like this is a bit more front of mind (and something like this one is more my speed) (though Steve also said he liked the 8% Purple Nurple version!).
Okay. On to our labels from around the Midwest (and one more from Chicago for good measure), all of which I’m pretty sure are actually beer:
