On Monday I asked if anyone had seen any other Black Is Beautiful beer releases this year outside of the one that I had spotted (Funkytown’s version at Pilot Project).
Good news! There is something to report! Bad news: I only heard about one more beer.
Thanks to FoGDB Kevin for letting us know that Miskatonic tapped a barrel-aged version earlier this week and a portion of the proceeds are going to support the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. Go have a pour if you can.
Hopefully someone picks up this project and runs with it next year. Breweries responded to this program like nothing I’ve ever seen and it’s a bummer to see something that benefitted so many organizations slip away.
Reminder: Only Premium Subscribers are being sent Wednesday label updates via email. Lite Subscribers can click here to see this week’s Rauch’in new label from Roaring Table.
This Weekend:
Begyle’s Barrel Aged Imperial Pajamas release party is going on right now, and if you hurry, you could probably still get some of the variants that started going on tap at noon. Matcha Orange sounds very interesting.
Fat Milk. Fat Possum. Picnic Bear. Fat Bear. Hop Butcher’s Fat Bear Week also starts today and TIL what possum pie is.
To kick off Women’s History Month, both locations of The Open Bottle are tapping the new Vibes From the Heartland collab beer tomorrow.
Head to Midwest Coast to Chiditarod with their teams tomorrow morning and then head back on Sunday night for their Oscar Watch Party.
Hopewell hosts a Polski Party tomorrow to celebrate the release of their new Zimwe Polish-style lager. Plus: Live polka.
Also tomorrow: Scratch Brewing turns 12! Go down and drink some vintage bottles, have some cask pours and eat some pizza with ‘em.
Next Week & Beyond:
Kick off the weekend by heading to Alarmist Brewing to celebrate their 10th anniversary on Friday and Saturday (the 7th and 8th).
Maplewood’s 8th annual Pulaski Day celebration takes place next Saturday (the 8th) with their Cashmere Pulaski pils and a couple Polish food trucks on hand.
Haymarket’s annual Sausagefest also appens March 8th: 13 breweries, 13 sausages, one king of the wiener.
You can also celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th at the Green Lady with Pipeworks and help raise money for the Chicago Women in Trades group.
In Cincinnati, Rhinegeist’s Bockfest Hall hosts 27 bocks from 25 breweries plus plenty of sausages and German tunes from March 7-9.
On the 12th, Goose Island is promising a special fine dining event with Vienna Beef for their 312 Day. Kinda can’t wait to see what that means. Reservations open up next week.
In Detroit, Atwater Brewery’s 313 Day takes place on the 13th (of course) where you can get a beer for $3.13.
March 15: Grab a green beer or a Shamrock Margarita at Cruz Blanca when they open for their St. Pat’s party at 9am.
March 16th: Take a Shield Fighting class at Eris Brewery & Ciderhouse.
March 23rd: Head to Sturdy Shelter in Batavia for their first Book Fair & Brews event where you can meet and talk books with local authors. Cool!
These Friday emails remain free and unrestricted thanks to the generous support of our Premium Subscribers, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event each week.
So many thanks go out to our Premium Subscribers for all your ongoing support. We really couldn’t still be doing this without y’all.
Here’s a post you don’t see very often: Liquid Love Brewing’s landlord opted to not renew their lease, so they’re on the hunt for a new brewery space. Know anyone in the Buffalo Grove area who wants a brewery for a tenant? Looks like they’ve already got some interest.
Off Color is bringing back a beer they haven’t brewed in nearly seven years.
I don’t see a lot of updates about The Perch in Wicker Park, but apparently they brought home some medals from the recent Brewski Awards (whatever those are). Still, congrats! A win is a win.
“Locally Brewed Fun Sauce.” I dig this Blockhead Beerworks mug club member t-shirt.
Remember when we showed you the Emporium/93 Octane collab beer a couple of weeks ago? Details are emerging on what they’ve got planned for it.
Meanwhile, 93 Octane is out here dancing on socials like it’s 2020 Tiktok.
I have a two-foot-tall stack of these things sitting around, so I’m sharing this reminder that Pak-Techs cannot be recycled and should be returned to places like Orange & Brew Bottle Shop.
The expansion project going on at New Glarus is bigger than I thought.
Thank you all for being here! Have a great weekend. See y’all on Monday.
~Karl, a Guy Drinking a Flagship of some sort because a Binny’s promotional email also just reminded me it’s Flagship February.
