Howdy, friends - our Friday email is coming to you a little earlier this week as I’m about to head out to celebrate my birthday today. On deck: Some kayaking, some hamburgers, some cake, and quite possibly some beer drinking in the sunshine. You know, the summer birthday basics.
If you are inclined to do something for your humble author today, I’d kindly invite you to simply click the like button or post a friendly comment. Feed the algorithm on our behalf and tell Substack (and me!) you’re out there and you’re reading. That’s all. Much obliged.
Here’s a photo of my last (real, non COVID) birthday in Chicago, spent at the lost and lamented Metropolitan Brewery taproom. That place ruled.
Good times.
A couple quick pieces of intel to pass along this morning:
Pilot Project Wrigleyville is officially open!
Premium Subscribers saw us reading the tea lives on Wednesday, but 93 Octane also directly confirmed that they were taking over the Elmhurst Brewing space and that they “are setting [it] up right now!” So look forward to that sooner rather than later, I think.
is/was reached out to let me know that at their upcoming first anniversary party on August 16, they will be introducing their very first canned beers into the market. Kinda wild that there’s still brewery that I so associate with bottled beers (and saison as a style speaks “bottle” to me) but they’ll have a bunch of Will Be saison cans available in a few weeks plus some other fun stuff we’ll mention closer to the event date.
You can expect an official announcement about a certain well-known barrel-aged beer series next week!
Reminder: Only Premium Subscribers get to see behind the paywall for the rest of these newsworthy social media updates! They’re also the only ones being sent Wednesday label updates via email. Lite Subscribers can click here to see what’s going on with Forbidden Root’s newest label.

Ravenswood On Tap also takes place this weekend, featuring the brewers and distillers of Malt Row. They’ve even kindly prepared a beer list for the festival.

Our Events Listings remain free and unrestricted to all readers, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event every week.
These listings skew Chicagoland-centric but I love to include events from around the Midwest! If there’s something you’d like to submit for inclusion, send me an email.
Our Social Updates section is now exclusively for Premium Subscribers. We’re extremely thankful for all your ongoing support. You keep these emails going.
