Upcoming Beer Events & Socials: Let's Get Sour

Before we get to this weekend’s events, I wanted to flag a few things coming up for the sour beer lovers among us. Next week is a great week to get some one-on-one face time with two great makers of things tart, funky and sour around Chicagoland.

Like that.

For starters: The 5th-generation owner and brewer of Duchesse de Bourgogne, Morgane Vanden Borre, will be appearing at The Green Lady on Tuesday afternoon starting at 5pm with four Duchesse beers on draft.

The Green Lady is the only bar I know to have a permanent Duchesse draft handle so I’m really glad that our friend Melani gets to welcome Morgane to her place.

If you’re in the suburbs, Vanden Borre will be at The Bavarian Lodge in Lisle the following day (Wednesday) starting at 5pm. I imagine schnitzel and spaetzle pair really well with a nice Flanders Red.

And then on that same afternoon, Eric Salazar - the brewer who helped pioneer amazing New Belgium wood-aged sours like La Folie - is in town visiting Suncatcher as well. He’s there for a collab brew day under his Strangebird banner and then they’ll be hanging out, sampling some sours. Sounds like a great day to be out on that awesome patio.

Plenty of stuff to get up to this weekend as well! Here’s what we’re seeing…

This Friday / Starting Friday:

Lincoln Square’s annual Maifest celebration kicked off last night and has historically always been a pretty good time. Go have a Hofbrau.

For something a little stronger than Hofbrau, Beer on the Wall - Arlington Heights is hosting a Three Floyds tasting with Dark Lord ChemTrailMix on draft.

Saturday, May 31:

Solemn Oath hosts their 13th Oath Day: Oathpocalypse.

Lake Bluff Brewing Company is hosting a summer block party at the Village Green with live music and food trucks. And beer.

One Lake Brewing is having a sixth birthday party with $5 house beers and free cake.

Near Sheboygan? Go celebrate 13 years of 3 Sheeps Brewing.

And if your afternoon travels take you near Grand Rapids, The Sovengard is hosting a little Lager Fest in their biergarten from 2-4pm.

Sunday, June 1:

Looks like the Goose Island Salt Shed pub is jumping on the Kolsch Service bandwagon - every Sunday from 11am - 5pm.

Other Things Next Week:

Craft beer and competitive puzzle completing this Monday? Sign me up, Miskatonic.

The event portion of our Friday emails remains free and unrestricted, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event every week.
