Here’s some news that’s too exciting to hold until Monday:
This week, New Glarus announced a massive $55 Million expansion plan to build a new facility for more brewing … and distilling.
If I were a Wisconsinite today, I’d be pretty excited for the prospect of a New Glarus gin, a New Glarus corn whiskey, or maybe getting a New Glarus brandy for my future Old Fashioneds.
(I’m making the assumption that New Glarus branded spirits would also not go beyond the boundaries of the Cheddar Curtain. I think that’s a safe one.)
Looking forward to seeing what comes of that in the months and years to come. And now, on to some very spooky…
This Weekend:
The farewell tour for Temperance Brewing starts tonight and continues through the weekend - with a final goodbye event back where it all started at Prairie Moon.
to-morrow, head to middle brow and write letters to Michigan voters and then buy a beer for a penny.
Illuminated Brew Works has their Halloween party on Saturday, and then hosts a Boozy Book Fair at noon on Sunday.
Up in Northern Michigan, it’s not just a Halloween party at Short’s Brewing - it’s a Hallo-WEEN party on Saturday with founder Joe Short going full Kip Dynamite.
Big day for books: On Sunday, Half Acre also hosts a book + vinyl fair called Reads & Records from 1-6pm.
Imperial Oak’s Days of Darkness runs now through Halloween Night, with lots of fun events and plenty of dark beers.
Later This Month (and Beyond):
If you attend only one beer dinner this month that has GHOST RAVIOLI on the menu, make it this one at Industry Ales on the 28th.
Do you have a great costume picked out for your pet? Show it off at Spiteful Brewing on Halloween and you’ll save 25% off your tab.
Sketchbook celebrates Dia de los Muertos at their Skokie location all day long on November 2nd.
I think most of us are probably going to be drinking on November 5, so if you want to do that in public, District Brewyards is hosting an Election Night Watch Party with a BBQ buffet starting at 6pm.
Tonality Brewing celebrates their first year in business over the weekend of November 8-10 and apparently if you attend you could win dinner and beer for an entire year.
Goose Island’s Rare Day is set for November 16th and tickets are already sold out, so if you didn’t grab one of those, good news: Phase Three’s Soaked in Oak event also takes place on the 16th in Lake Zurich, which represents “the deepest dive into our cellar we’ve ever made to celebrate five years of Phase Three with you.”
And way out on the 21st: If you love birds, and know a lot about birds, and want to prove you know a lot about birds, Speciation Artisan Ales in Grand Rapids is hosting Bird Trivia on this date.
These Friday emails remain free and unrestricted thanks to the generous support of our Premium Subscribers, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event each week.
Please share this email with a fellow beer lover:
And if someone shared this email with you, and you liked it, subscribe, wouldya?
Special super-huge thanks to our Premium Subscribers for keeping this whole thing happening every week! We couldn’t do it without you.
I’ll take a pour of this Husky Critter - an oak-aged American brown ale - from MORE Brewing, please.
Looks like Mikerphone had a fun (and productive) trip through the UK recently.
The vintage wood bar at the forthcoming Suncatcher Brewing looks awesome. Also, while they won’t have a kitchen of their own, when they open Suncatcher will apparently have “a pastor door.”
Begyle made this year’s Oktoberfestiversary look like a lot of fun, and cheers to them and Dovetail for raising $40,000 for the Friendship Center.
Here comes Hell Bear from Werk Force, which they say is “aged in a blend of Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels [and] rested on freshly grown Ghost, Carolina Reaper and Apocalypse Scorpion pepper.” Damn.
The Benthos is alive (and underwater?) at Half Acre, and goes on sale on Oznr on November 1st.
The newest Nocte releases from Gnosis drop on Halloween, if you’re into things like Banana Split and Walnut Brownie variants (and I am). If you’re into paying $75 for a very exclusive barrel aged beer and first access to other wider releases, you might also be interested in their new HypGnosis Society, limited to just 200 members.
I love how excited Laschet’s gets about putting interesting new German beers on tap. I don’t know what Ayinger Kirta is, but I do know that they are psyched to be pouring it, and that’s all I need to know.
Speaking of interesting German beers, the Bavarian Lodge is saying goodbye to Oktoberfest season with a barrel of a special unfiltered, unpasteurized fest lager from Connecticut’s OEC Brewing (Ordinem Ecentrici Coctores) that starts pouring tomorrow.
I think Dovetail might be bringing back Czech Dark Lager, y’all. Just a guess.
Do you have a carved pumpkin that you might want to enter into a competition? Do you also want to save money on a purchase of non-barrel-aged Hop Butcher beer? Then we’ve got good news for you.
The latest brewery to enter the THC seltzer market is Maplewood, whose new DRO brand promises that their beverage is “specifically formulated to onset and offset quickly ... you’ll begin feeling the effects within 15 minutes and, after about an hour, you’ll be ready for your next experience.”
If you like dogs, you’ll love the look of Midwest Coast’s new (operational!) elevator.
Things are looking awful spooky at Alter Brewing.
Thank you all for being here! Have a great weekend.
