As this year’s Craft Brewers Conference comes to a close, the results of the World Beer Cup have been released following last night’s medal ceremony.

I’ll have a full Midwestern breakdown for all of y’all on Monday, but it’s clear that having the conference in Indiana meant that Hoosier brewers showed up in a big way. They took home 11 medals this year. That’s nearly a 400% increase over last year’s GABF haul, where they snagged just three medals.

This being the World Beer Cup, I always like to see if the world is actually represented, and yes, it is - 17 different nations earned medals, including a mixed-culture brett beer from Argentina, a Chinese Quad, and an oatmeal stout from Tijuana, Mexico. Pretty cool.

And don’t forget - we’re one week away from this year’s Beer Under Glass at the Harris Theater Rooftop Terrace. Do you have your tickets yet? I’ll be there! Come say hi. Let’s drink some beer outside.

Reminder: Only Premium Subscribers are usually being sent Wednesday label updates via email, but we threw that off a bit assuming some of you might want to know about that BCS adjunct stuff. Lite Subscribers can click here to see what’s going on with some of those past labels though.

This Friday / Starting Friday:

There’s not a ton going on today, so … just go get a beer somewhere! But if you have a pug, you can get a free pour of Maplewood’s Morbidly Obese Pug Churro stout at The Open Bottle in Lockport. The pugless among us can just go get a pour of it like usual (and have a mini churro alongside it).

Saturday, May 3:

Pilot Project Chicago hosts the launch of Brutalist Brewing today starting at 4pm.

D and G Brewing is going out big for their final day in business, with a glassblower, live music, a BBQ truck and of course, the last of their beer.

It wouldn’t be an IBW Lodge event if they just did yoga, right? No, of course they also are hosting a sound bath. Also, it’s “pentagram yoga".

Monochrome Brewing is turning one and throwing a block party today from noon to midnight, with a lowrider car show, DJs, BBQ and tacos, and the debut of their YR:1NE Anniversary barrel-aged stout.

Roaring Table is hosting a West Coast Wonderland Tap Takeover with beers from Art History, Hop Butcher, Riverlands and many more local brewers.

Up here in TC, Right Brain Brewing is hosting a “Pints & Ponies” event for the Kentucky Derby - bring your best hobby horse and big hat!

Sunday, May 4:

Pilot Project in Chicago hosts a Grown-Up Book Fair from 12-3pm with The Social Reader.

Riverlands Brewing hosts a “Bricks of Hope” fundraiser and Star Wars costume contest for their May the Fourth Be With You celebration.

Head to Casa Humilde for a slightly early 5 de Mayo On the Patio.

Next Week:

May 5: You can attend a “Dope Ass Cinco De Mayo” at Moor’s Diversey House.

May 8: Side Project launches in Chicago with events at The Beer Temple (full draft and bottle list here) and The Open Bottle (draft and bottle list here).

May 8: Evanston’s Prairie Moon was an OG craft beer supporter way back in the day, and today they celebrate 23 years in business. Go show them some support.

The event portion of our Friday emails remains free and unrestricted, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event every week.

Our Social Updates section is now exclusively for Premium Subscribers. We’re extremely thankful for all your ongoing support. You keep these emails going.

  • Last week we told you about the Chicago Beer Society’s Legends of Lager festival. The Championship Belt for top lager of the day went to…
