I have a growing suspicion that 2024 isn’t just going to be the Year of the Lager, but the Year that Craft Lagers Invade Macrobeer’s Territory. We’ve seen a number of brands roll out beers with a heritage lager look, but here’s another prime example:
The New Illinois Beer Label Of The Week:
I started thinking about this last week — Premium subscribers will remember the trio of very American labels from Schlafly — but as craft beer sales stagnate and Bud Light continues to tread water, I can see a lot of breweries looking to capitalize on that vacuum when it comes to what is truly the nation’s most popular beer style: American lager.
at had some thoughts on Domestic/Macro/Micro/Premium lager as well this week.As for this example, I know nothing about the flavor of this potentially forthcoming light lager from Destihl, but I do know it’s juuust a little ironic to have “Boycott Bland” on a label for a beer style that is generally defined by its blandness. Hell, the BJCP style guidelines say it should be “nearly flavorless” and note that “Strong flavors are a fault.”
As of press time there are exactly six reviews of Destihl Lite on Untappd. Here’s the first review from last week:
Nailed it!
Premium Subscribers: Another fresh label from Destihl follows, but first, a little bit of news about a new brewing destination for a (very) old Chicago brand. Plus! We’re serving up some Marshmetal, Hot Dish, Basil Fruit Cake and at least one Bud Light label that you will almost certainly only ever see here. If you’re not a Premium subscriber yet, you can fix that very quickly via this button:
