Hi, friends - happy Label Wednesday. One of these new labels took me on a journey down a rabbit hole of UK lager miscellanea, and you’re coming along for the ride, thanks to…
The New Illinois Beer Label of the Week:
Yes, that’s Wrexham as in Wales, as in the football club, and also as in the UK’s oldest lager brewery (per their website). You can see this label comes from Destihl, which appears to have been ramping up their contract business significantly of late, given the many labels for Maplewood beers that I’ve seen submitted through Destihl, plus their new Hanson Brothers Brewery partnership and the Evel Knievel beers they’re producing now too. Lots going on down there in Normal!
Some other interesting backstory to this: This type of Wrexham Lager made its way to Vancouver a few weeks ago thought there’s some reporting that Ryan Reynolds is in a trademark battle over the rights to brew beer under the Wrexham name. Sounds like he’s going to need some of that sweet Aviation Gin money for lawyers.
Up next for our Premium Subscribers: Another interesting partnership from a Chicago area brewery, a collab from two Midwestern barrel-aging powerhouses, and a beer with some genuinely awful-sounding flavors added to it. (According to my palate, anyways.)
Plus: Rizz.
