It’s a bit of a weird week on the label front. For starters, I think most breweries around the Midwest are heeding the warning to get all labels to the TTB ASAP, in advance of a government shutdown.
There were so. many. keg. rings. that came through in the last week — submissions featuring photographs of handwritten keg rings aren’t rare, but I saw a pretty big uptick this week, which sure makes it seem like people want to get these in as fast as they can.
Second, there are a lot of beer labels in this week’s emails that represent “beer being brewed for other states/organizations or by other breweries.” Premium subscribers will see what I mean in states like Minnesota and Ohio this week.
Want to become a Premium subscriber and get access to those insights as well as all our past beer label coverage? Great news! It costs less than one beer a month:
What happens to this email if the government gets shut down? Um … well … I, uh, I’ll come up with something! Maybe it’s finally time to write up all my thoughts on cheap 10% ABV tiki IPAs in stovepipe cans.
Until then, here we go with:
The New Illinois Beer Label Of The Week:
I haven’t seen many package offerings (if any!) from downstate Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery and Eatery, so seeing a rare beer from them emerge in the form of a charitable effort to preserve a local historic theater (with a cool label!) warms my cynical beer-soaked heart.
It also serves as a welcome reminder that they have a Peoria location with a very cool story.
