Happy Label Wednesday! We’ve got a weird one for you today.
The New Illinois Beer Label of the Week:
This is kinda wild. First we spot this new Cruz Blanca label, filed out of Great Central despite being the brand now owned by MolsonCoors, for a beer that Cruz doesn’t have listed as something they’re making yet. That’s not too crazy…
…but wait. Cruz Blanca already makes a Mexican-Style lager - Mexico Calling - so what’s up with this one? Then we noticed the “Official Cerveza of the Atlanta Braves” at the top. Huh? What?
Well. After a quick bit of searching, we found this label from Georgia-based Terrapin, who as you might recall, used to be owned by MolsonCoors before last year’s Tilray acquisition. Look familiar?
Apparently Terrapin used to make (or still makes?) Los Bravos for the Braves … and they even got into a little bit of a legal conflict with the team when they tried to trademark that brand name. Perhaps now that Terrapin isn’t associated with MolsonCoors, this is just a loose thread of a partnership that MC needs an associated brands to handle.
Either way, something interesting to stumble across even if it never comes to anything.
