We kid breweries about copyright and trademark infringement a lot in these emails, but today one organization struck back: The Tribune just reported on a lawsuit filed by the Ravinia Festival against Ravinia Brewing.
Seems like an uphill battle for the festival, seeing as how there are a lot of other businesses with “Ravinia” in the name that have not also been sued, and it seems like a tough thing to protect since it’s also a geographical reference. IANAL, however.
There’s a lot there, and the festival isn’t making itself any friends with a move like this (no one wants to be the Goliath in a David vs Goliath fight, right?), so I imagine they’ll try to see it through to the end. It’s a bummer that a brewery has to head into winter with something like this hanging over their heads.
Okay, back to joking about copyright infringement. Two labels strike me as fairly questionable this week, and one beer name has definitely been used elsewhere (not that that’s exactly rare). Also in this email? A lot of cool-looking heavy metal imagery. Nothing wrong with that.

Now onto something original!
The New Illinois Beer Label Of The Week:
I don’t think I’ve seen a label from Tighthead come through in quite a while, especially one so interestingly “classical” or even medieval-looking, so I’m happy to pass this one on today.
