Welcome to another New Label Wednesday with fresh looks at new beers from Minnesota to Missouri, over to Ohio and all spaces in between. Substack says I’m already pushing the limit on email length here so let’s get straight to…
The Illinois Beer Label(s) of the Week:
I rarely include labels that come to us via a brewery’s newsletter but if Hop Butcher is honoring Tom Freaking Skilling with his own beer as we celebrate his retirement next week, then dammit, we’re going to acknowledge that as well and appreciate their efforts.
Their email subscribers saw this first, WGN-TV published a story on it just this afternoon, and now here we are. Long live the king of Chicago weather.
Oh, and I apologize for calling their Regeneration Station beer by the wrong name on Monday. Thanks to Dove from Hop Butcher for noticing that for me. “Rejuvenation” rolls off the tongue nicely but probably doesn’t fly with the TTB, does it…
And now for a bonus label:
I haven’t seen many labels from Buffalo Grove’s Liquid Love of late, but they sent through three different Monarch-branded beers this week: A pale ale, an IPA and this golden lager brewed with basmati rice.
I don’t know if MORE Brewing will necessarily appreciate this — it looks quite similar to their Henna labels — but I think the design still looks pretty cool. Looks like these beers have existed for a bit, but since these are the first labels that LL has sent to the TTB since late 2022, it’s new enough for me.
Premium Subscribers: Believe it or not, this isn’t the only Indian-inspired beer in this email. Oh, and you’ll learn the answer to the question “Who’s brewing an American light lager this week?” Plus: An aperitivo-inspired barrel aged stout, sharks, chickenhawks, a new eclipse beer, and a beer that honestly could be satire. I’m not entirely sure. But it’s kinda funny.
