After Wednesday’s two taproom closure announcements, here’s some happy news for your Friday afternoon:
Keeping Together was finally able to source and receive a replacement brewhouse after losing a ton of money when their previous supplier closed up shop, leaving them (at the time) shit outta luck. Even though they’re in New Mexico now, I (and many others) are surely super glad to see more forward progress for the brewery project originally launched in Chicago.
Another heartwarmer of an event comes from The Beer Temple, which is hosting a Pouring for Neighbors WNC Hurricane Relief gathering on October 26th with help from Half Acre, Cruz Blanca, Maplewood and others. Go lend a hand and have a few beers and bites.
They’re not the only place lending a hand for hurricane relief: Phase Three is hosting a Sweet Appalachia event in Lake Zurich on Sunday, November 10th from 12pm-4pm in Lake Zurich where they’ll release a new double IPA of the same name, with “a portion of the proceeds from every 4-pack and pour of Sweet Appalachia sold as well as 100% of proceeds from every brewery can purchased will be donated directly to Beloved Asheville.”
Breweries including Rt 66 Old School Brewing, Midwest Coast and Kishwaukee Brewing Company are also donating proceeds from purchases of certain beers as well.
So, that’s nice! And now, on to even more…
This Weekend:
The Beer Culture Summit continues tonight at Dovetail with a special event all about Japanese drinking cultures and customs, then continues tomorrow at Guinness Chicago with a presentation about ‘80s electronic music culture.
Blue Island Beer Company hosts H.O.O.F. - Hands Off Our Fest - tomorrow, which is “a music fest celebrating the women, femmes, and thems of the Chicago punk scene and beyond!”
Also tomorrow, the Michigan Brewers Guild’s 15th annual Detroit Fall Beer Festival brings 40 breweries to Eastern Market from 1-6 p.m.
The 19th also sees Milk Money, BuckleDown and Imperial Oak partnering on a “Boos & Brews” bus trip to all three locations with a costume contest and giveaways, plus live music and food at each stop.
Funkytown is celebrating their third year in business on Saturday with a party at Pilot Project.
Wrap up your weekend by making a Sunday trip to Burning Bush Brewing for their annual Fall Fest, featuring live music, entertainment, food popups and, of course, beer.
Later This Month (and Beyond):
Imperial Oak’s Days of Darkness run from the 23rd through Halloween Night, and sees the return of their “I MUST BREAK YOU” barrel-aged stout.
Got a wicked chili recipe? Maplewood wants to know about it on November 10th, when they host a chili cookoff at the Lounge.
Goose Island’s Rare Day is set for November 16th and it looks like tickets are already sold out.
If you didn’t grab a Rare Day ticket, good news: Phase Three’s Soaked in Oak event also takes place on the 16th in Lake Zurich, which represents “the deepest dive into our cellar we’ve ever made to celebrate five years of Phase Three with you.” Three sessions are available that day, so go have some pre-FoBAB barrel-aged fun.

Stockholm’s brewpub in Geneva is already reopening following their big fire a few months ago. Their official grand reopening took place on Wednesday.
WGN Radio digital strategist Michael Piff wants you to know that you can order a 24-oz hockey stick full of beer at Hawks games this year.
The connections between Weihenstephan and Chicago breweries started (AFAIK) with the century-old kettle that Dovetail uses to decoct their beers, but this week I learned that Goldfinger Brewing got this old plate and frame filter from Dovetail that also originally hailed from Weihenstephan as well.
Speaking of Goldfinger, if you like rauchbier, well, you probably already know about this Maplewood collab - but for the rest of us, a new smokie is going on tap next week.
The Guild put out a call for FoBAB volunteers if you want to lend a hand this year.
Hmmm…who wrote this Chicago magazine piece that is/was brewing mentioned and was included in this week? Name rings a bell…
Cheers to Horse Thief Hollow who just had their biggest canning day ever.
Destihl was the destination for Illinois’ first official Steinholding State Championship last weekend.
Now open: Homewood Brewing Company.
Hop Butcher has released some crazy beers, but a beer aged in rum barrels for three years and then conditioned on, among other things, pineapple soft serve might be the most bonkers I’ve seen yet.
MORE Brewing is the latest to roll out a new Ecto-cooler inspired beer which sounds pretty delicious to me.
Ever wonder what “Apapacho” means, and what it has to do with beer? Cerveceria Paracaidista is happy to help explain it.
Thank you all for being here! Have a great weekend.
