Rogue Shutters? And This Weekend's Beer Events
Powered by community
Some late-breaking beer news this afternoon:
It’s not Midwestern beer news but Rogue was a big name for a long time - we’ll almost certainly have more on this on Monday.
Our condolences to the Vetter family, who closed 1840 Brewing Company in June so they could spend more time together as co-owner Stephanie waged a battle with stage four pancreatic cancer.
Unfortunately, Stephanie passed away this week, and her loss is being mourned by the Midwestern brewing community. Remembrances and condolences were shared by breweries like Working Draft, Starkweather, Lakefront and Mikerphone, among others. We echo the words of Solemn Oath, who will be taking over the former 1840 space sometime next year:
“This sucks. Hug your friends and hug your family. Fuck Cancer. If you’re able, give. If not, share.” A GoFundMe is available here if you want to help send a little support to her family.
Life’s short. Do like Warren Zevon said and enjoy every sandwich. Or beverage.
This Friday/Starting Friday:
Rev’s Deep Wood Release Party is going on now at their taproom, and Hop Butcher releases their Lincoln Anniversary Stout 3 today as well. It sounds bonkers.
A bunch of civic stuff taking place today: There’s IllumiBrew at the Morton Arboretum kicks off the weekend later this afternoon, a Craft Beer Tasting at the Joliet Area Historical Museum.and in Madison, it’s Brew Lights at the Henry Vilas Zoo.
It’s also the Inaugural Bellsgiving at the Eccentric Cafe.
Saturday, Nov. 15:
Traverse City Beer Week wraps up with a day themed around Stout Showdown but I might pop up at the annual Flannels & Flapjacks (and beer) Festival.
Sunday, Nov. 16:
Lake Effect’s hosting a little beer/Bears/BBQ gathering starting at 11am.
The Beer Temple’s second-ever ticketed beer dinner, featuring Haykin Cider.
Our Events Listings remain free to all readers, so we can give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery, beer bar, bottle shop or beer event every week.
These listings skew Chicagoland-centric but I love including events from around the Midwest! To submit something for inclusion, send me an email.
Our Social Updates section is exclusively for Premium Subscribers. We find all sorts of fun beer trivia and details we like to pass along. Want to see what we’re pulling together? Subscribe and support our weekly efforts here.
