Hi, friends! Happy Friday. I’m filing this dispatch from the road - we are in Detroit this weekend for a wedding and I almost certainly won’t have any time to sneak out to Batch Brewing or Eastern Market. (Might find a way to duck into the Grand Trunk Pub, though. That place rules.) Wherever this email finds you, I hope y’all have a good weekend.

For the past few years, I’ve been waiting to see if Wisconsin native Mike Pallen would follow through on his stated intentions to open a Mikerphone brewery in his native state. In fact, as recently as two years ago they were actively jumping through the hoops necessary to get a space in Delevan up and running.

Well, looks like ‘Sconnie drinkers will be waiting a while longer, as this week they announced that the second Mikerphone location will be coming soon to Park Ridge.

The new location - dubbed the Mikerphone Brewing Kitchen & Tap - is about 20 minutes east of their original space, a little closer to drinkers inside Chicago city limits. Notably for flyers who already plan on making a quick stop at Mikerphone during their travels, it’s even closer to ORD for anyone who has a thirst during a layover.

We’ve added this new space to our list of breweries in the works, which you can find at the bottom of our full brewery list here. Current breweries we’ve heard of that are working towards an open include:

  • Arlington Heights Beer Co. (no movement on this in quite a while)

  • Black Lung - Grayslake (just completed a funding round)

  • Ekaloka Fermentory (in the works)

  • Links Taproom and Brewery (in the works)

  • 5Rabbit Brewpub (apparently still happening, maybe?)

Do you know of any other breweries trying to open their doors? Let me know!

This Friday / Starting Friday:

The Open Bottle has a handful of their single-barrel Bourbon County Stout pick bottles available today at 3pm if you didn’t preorder. They’ll have other fun stuff on draft as well.

Head to Lincoln Square starting tonight for the Square Roots Festival, running through Sunday. Get yourself a special Dovetail Hopfenlager while you’re there.

It’s another Alpaca Friday at Stormcloud Brewing in Frankfort, MI.

Saturday, July 12:

More Brewing’s MORE Fest takes place in Huntley with over 60 breweries in attendance. Looks like tickets are still available.

Looking for something more casual? Head to Half Acre for their annual Only Gold gathering with Vienna Beef. Yes, there will be a Dog Dash:

Happy 2nd anniversary to Sundial Brewing & Blending who’s partying in their parkling lot today, and Happy 12th birthday to Big Lake Brewing, who’s also hosting a big ol’ parking lot party with a bunch of live bands and smoked meats.

Sunday, July 13:

Take a day off, I guess?

Next Week:

Season tickets go on sale for the next Revolution Deep Wood releases on Monday, with the public sale taking place Tuesday and a bunch of other pre-release activity after that.

Our Events Listings remain free and unrestricted to all readers, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event every week.

These listings skew Chicagoland-centric but I love to include events from around the Midwest! If there’s something you’d like to submit for inclusion, send me an email.

Our Social Updates section is now exclusively for Premium Subscribers. We’re extremely thankful for all your ongoing support. You keep these emails going.

  • Happy 23rd birthday to the brewery side of one of the least-discussed but also oldest beer makers in Chicagoland…
