Before we get started with this week’s labels, we’ve got a little bit of a scoop for you. The co-owners of northwest Indiana-based Boneflower Mead, one of the nation’s top-ranked meaderies, are doing battle in court over control of the business.
As today’s story by GDB Steve notes, Boneflower co-founder Aaron Schavey filed suit against fellow co-founder Geoff Resney in Lake County Superior Court on Friday accusing his business partner of fraud, deception and draining business funds for the personal benefit of himself and friends.
There’s a lot going on here, including allegations of changing locks, dismantling security cameras and running the business’s balance down to less than $400. You can read the whole thing here, and we’ll keep an eye on this as it moves forward.
Now for something more fun to talk about:
The New Illinois Beer Label of the Week:
We saw Tonality’s first labels emerge a few months back, but they really went to town this week, with a whole bunch of labels and keg rings sent through the TTB.
These two package labels both look cool but I was really hoping to see labels associated with the keg rings they submitted this week: A NEIPA named “Yaulp,” a Belgian-style dubbel called “Dubbel Crit,” an “Elmeg the Weizenbock” that sounds like a D&D character, and a Russian Imperial Stout named “Crepuscular.”
As a longtime guitar player, I’m hoping to see another one of their beers, the Tube Screamer Hazy Pale, eventually emerge in package form too. I think I know exactly what shade of green that’s going to be.
Up next for our Premium Subscribers: Three big new barrel-aged beer labels from major brewers, two new heritage lager labels from smaller brewers, and our first holiday beer label. I promise it’s not a pumpkin beer … but we’re getting close to that season, aren’t we? (Fingers crossed for next week.)
