Howdy, friends - I’m heading into the weekend early today and I encourage you to do the same if at all possible. I’m on my way up to Petoskey, Michigan to go be a tourist in someone else’s tourist town for a change. (They love it when you point that out.)
There’s some fun stuff to do over the next couple of days, so take a look at these…
This Weekend:
The Beer Temple is selling 8-year vertical collections of Bell’s Expedition Stout today? And only today? Are you already on your way there? Why not? Go!
Tonality Brewing celebrates their first year in business this weekend and apparently if you attend you could win dinner and beer for an entire year.
Beers referencing old arcade games? Old news. Working with the original creator of Q*Bert to make a new beer, which is of course called Q*Beert? Love it. Awesome move, Imperial Oak - and they’re hosting a special event on Saturday, November 9 to celebrate with proceeds going to a local charity.
Here’s a sentence I didn’t see myself typing in these emails: Want to go hang out with Joe Montana? If so, head to Guinness Open Gate Chicago on Saturday for a Notre Dame Watch Party with the famed QB.
Sunday’s a good day for chili, right? Go try a bunch at Maplewood’s Chili Cook-Off: Free to taste, but you have to bring two food pantry items or a donation to vote.
Later This Month (and Beyond):
Plank Road Tap Room is going full English Pub from November 13-17 and that sounds awesome.
Phase Three’s says there are limited tickets remaining to their Soaked in Oak event on the 16th in Lake Zurich, so if you felt like maybe attending, sounds like it’s time to commit.
Skeleton Key’s final Outspoken event takes place Tuesday, Nov. 19th and is raising money “to help support LGBTQ+ youth locally.”
And on the 21st: If you love birds, and know a lot about birds, and want to prove you know a lot about birds, Speciation Artisan Ales in Grand Rapids is hosting Bird Trivia on this date.
These Friday emails remain free and unrestricted thanks to the generous support of our Premium Subscribers, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event each week.
Please share this email with a fellow beer lover:
And if someone shared this email with you, and you liked it, subscribe, wouldya?
Special super-huge thanks to our Premium Subscribers for keeping this whole thing happening every week! We couldn’t do it without you.
Here’s a phrase I’ve never seen written before, courtesy of Great Central: “Our favorite collaboration with The Perch Kitchen & Tap.” No shade intended here either - just that no one really talks about that formerly-Finch Beer project much anymore.
Heads up, brown ale lovers: Earthen Ales’ “double oat brown infused with French toast and Irish cream” might be worth the trip north.
Last week, Old Irving Brewing told you Krampus was coming. This week, OIB tells us that he’s bringing friends, including a Pirate variant.
Cruz Blanca’s Luchador series is readying its annual return as well; their variant announcement will come via their newsletter.
Centennial Chicago is entering its barrel aged season with a bunch of great beers coming on tap soon and some appropriately hefty entrees to pair with them.
Is there any place better in Chicagoland to get a Czech-style beer poured than Beermiscuous Highwood? Not when they’re changing the temperature on their cooler and adding a chilled water bath to the serving process.
GO Brewing has an interesting reel about how they reverse-engineered their packaging as they expanded into a bunch of new states.
Job alert: Riverlands Brewing is looking for an assistant brewer.
Thanks to Spiteful Brewing for posting all these photos of dogs in costume from their Halloween party. (Hi Craig!)
9th Hour Brewing just released their very first bourbon-barrel-aged imperial stout this year, called Dean’s List.
Despite having been based in Michigan for a while, Transient Brewing reps their original state with Chicago Bears colors on their new Juice is Loose cans.
As previewed in a certain Chicago Magazine story by yours truly, the Hop Butcher Lincoln Anniversary Stout 2 is out today. More details here.
Werk Force’s Genuine Authentic black pilsner is back. Sounds delicious.
Cheeseburger sliders with hoisin and Chinese mustard on bao buns? Also sounds delicious, All Rise Brewing.
Pipeworks wants you to get to know their head brewer Pete in their “People of Pipeworks” Series.
A little expansion news: Northern Michigan’s Stiggs Brewery is turning this garage into a 10bbl production facility with a seasonal taproom.
Hey, Premium Subscribers - remember when we showed you that Chain Sword label from Three Floyds a few months back? It’s now popping up in this new variety pack.
Old Nation has a new Imperial American brown ale with coconut and vanilla and yes, I’m already on my way to the liquor store to see if they have it in yet.
A couple Gnosis updates this week: Their Phase Three collab Miel de Mure is available at both P3 taprooms as of now, and if you’ve ever wanted to try a hard root beer that isn’t branded Not Your Father’s, the new Gnosis version from their G-Sodaz series is out now as well.
Thank you all for being here! Have a great weekend. Catch you on Monday.
