Happy Friday, friends. Done reading this afternoon’s Q&A with Short Fuse owner Nick Teague yet? Then join me as we bid a sad farewell to Windmill Brewing tomorrow night and then Light the Lamp on Sunday. What a week.
Okay! It’s another busy weekend for events at breweries all over the place. Here’s what we’ve stumbled across:
This Weekend:
Miskatonic hosts their “90’s for the 9th” birthday party on June 29. Rad.
Dovetail’s soba noodle demo on June 30th is sold out, but their Japanese standing bar service from 4-6pm is still open to all.
Also on the 30th, wrap up Pride Month with not one but two drag shows at Industry Ales - one at brunch and one in the evening going until 2am.
If you’ve ever been up to the Traverse City area for Cherry Fest, you know how bonkers it gets. That’s why I love that Kingsley Local Brewing (located a few miles south of TC) is hosting their 2nd annual Escape from Cherry Fest gathering, starting tomorrow and running through July 6.
Horse Thief Hollow’s “Cattle Week” runs through this weekend — they invited chefs to come in and create dishes using the Angus beef that grazes near the brewpub and is fed on spent HTH grain. Pretty cool!
Next Week & Beyond:
Hopleaf celebrates Canada Day on July 1 with ten Canadian beers on tap, plus Caesars. “Hard to see a Caesar and not want a Caesar.”
Half Acre’s annual Only Gold party with Vienna Beef is set for July 5.
On July 10th, beers from Gnosis will become available in Illinois and Crafted1979 is partying with them (and their beers).
Sun King celebrates 15 years with a party in Indianapolis on July 13.
Way out on July 20th, Emmett’s West Dundee is celebrating their 25th birthday with, among other things, an adult big wheel race.
Great Lakes is hosting their Christmas Ale in July event starting at 11:30am on July 25.
Way way out on July 27th, Rabid Brewing is already getting ready for their annual Feast of the Goat Queen, which, of course, will have baby goats.
So much going on these days! Our Friday emails remain free and unrestricted thanks to the help of our Premium Subscribers, because we want to give you a reason (or three) to visit a local brewery or beer event each week.
If you want to help us spread the word about the cool beer stuff that catches our eye, we invite you to become an annual Premium Subscriber for just over $1 per week:
Huge thanks to our incredible Premium Subscribers for helping to keep this whole email series up and running for over a decade!
Job listings: Omega Yeast is hiring for a Production Brewer & Packaging Technician. No pay range listed. Hop Butcher needs a PT production assistant also.
Dovetail made and canned a special Square Roots festival Hopfenlager made with hops selected by friends from the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce.
For posterity, here is the final lineup of events at Light the Lamp over their last week.
Ten Ninety has new merch!
Last week we featured a new label from Riggs Beer Company; this week Goldfinger went down to pick up some special Illinois white corn — and explained why this crop is so special for beermakers.
Speaking of Goldfinger, their beers - along with beers from Dovetail and Half Acre - were showcased at the legendary Torst beer bar in Brooklyn.
Did you know Lakefront Brewery makes their beer in a 1967 direct fire copper brewkettle from Germany? Now you do.
If you need a beer near the NASCAR race in downtown Chicago, Adams Street Brewery will be open (a rare exception) on that Sunday, July 7.
Looks like a good time was had by all at Maplewood’s 10th anniversary party.
Ravinia Brewing Company kindly helped to explain if a town, a restaurant, a school, a brewery or a golf course was actually a music festival. That lawsuit is making them get a bit sassy.
FYI: Hailstorm offers half off flights every Monday.
Corridor Brewery hosted a Taylor Swift Night on Tuesday, glitter cocktails and all.
Piece Brewpub honored Ryne Sandberg by donating $1 from each pint of Golden Arm Kolsch to Cubs Charities this week.
For the first time ever, Miskatonic has three different Czech-style lagers on tap at the same time.
Sturdy Shelter announced that they had been awarded a Backing Small Businesses grant from American Express and Main Street America to fund a water bottle filling station and an AED, plus pay for training for all staff as well as offer free training to the community.
Big week for Off Color news: Beer For Darts, an English Dark Mild, launches at Flight Club on July 2nd. Fun little animation in that video. They also announced a Beer For Hot Dogs and also their first non-beer beverage: A hard iced tea called Cat Fiend.
Off Color’s not the only one to roll out a new non-beer beverage: Church Street also has a new hard lemonade and a new hard raspberry tea available as well.
I think this is the first year I’ve seen an Oktoberfest released before a pumpkin beer. This 3 Sheeps version is already on store shelves in Wisconsin.
Watermark Brewing announced that they’d purchased the lot next to their brewery and were just a few weeks away from being able to open their new beer garden.
If you found anything in this email informative, enlightening or entertaining, it’d be wonderful if you considered joining as a Premium Subscriber:
Or, just send this email to whomever you’d want to drink an Oktoberfest this weekend with.
Until then, see y’all next week! Have a great weekend.
